U-M's inaugural Democracy Week (September 14–18 2026) brings together students, faculty, staff, and community partners for a week of events celebrating civic participation, democratic engagement, and informed dialogue. Timed to coincide with National Voter Registration Day (September 15th) and Constitution Day (September 17th), this week supports the University of Michigan's Look to Michigan vision by equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to strengthen democracy and create positive change in their communities.

Democracy is a practice — and it takes practice. Democracy Week exists to create space for that work. This year, led by the Center for Democracy and Civic Empowerment, the University of Michigan will host a week of events open to students, faculty, and the broader community: lectures from leading voices, workshops for hands-on engagement, and conversations that cut to the heart of what democratic life requires of all of us. Show up. Listen. Ask hard questions. That's what this week is for.
